Winter in Toronto can be brutally cold, especially when it's your first. As I stepped out on a gloomy January evening, every bone in my body questioned my decision to brave the freezing temperatures for an event. But my curiosity to engage with the design community and immerse myself in the city’s culture prevailed. And I must say, it was well worth the effort!
Mason Studio brought warmth to the chill by celebrating the art of dumpling-making, connecting stories, histories, and traditions from various cultures—all through the humble dumpling. From the Polish pierogi to the Chinese wonton, I got to see how some of Toronto’s celebrated chefs turn these beloved recipes into something that reflects their heritage. The event was more than just a culinary showcase; it was a vibrant meeting of minds and flavors. Watching the talented chef from Pastaio demonstrate their skills, sharing recipes that have been passed down through generations, and getting the chance to try making dumplings myself was a delightful experience.
Mason Studio's Open House event brought together an array of culinary experts who not only shared their knowledge but also made sure we left with full hearts and fuller stomachs. What started as a cold, dreary evening turned into a warm, inviting experience, filled with laughter, learning, and—of course—dumplings.
I also had the chance to meet some incredible people, make new friends, and learn more about the inspiring work that Mason Studio does, all in a setting that felt almost dreamlike. It was an evening of unexpected joys, and a reminder that sometimes, the best experiences come when you step out of your comfort zone—even if it’s into the bitter cold of a Toronto winter.
